Mr. Schaevitz focuses his practice primarily on defending complex product liability matters involving medical, scientific, and other technical issues. He acts as counsel in trial and appellate court matters in jurisdictions across the country, working closely with clients and local counsel. He has represented both product manufacturers and industry trade associations in cases involving questions of disease causation and addiction.
In addition to defending clients in product liability litigation, Mr. Schaevitz has represented clients in matters before Federal agencies, such as the Federal Trade Commission. Mr. Schaevitz has also represented clients before state agencies and departments in matters relating to taxation and regulation.
Mr. Schaevitz has also worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York. He was a speechwriter for the Attorney General, and also represented New York as trial counsel in complex civil litigation. Among other matters, he successfully represented New York in a landmark school desegregation case in Federal court. Prior to joining Jacob, Medinger & Finnegan, Mr. Schaevitz worked as a legislative aide to Senator Christopher J. Dodd while earning his law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
