Mr. Jacob has been involved in the defense of product liability cases against tobacco manufacturers since 1954, acting for many years as national coordinating counsel for various tobacco clients. In addition to his work in tobacco litigation, both domestic and international, he has had extensive experience in other litigation, including antitrust and stockholders' derivative actions, as well as in legislative hearings and administrative agency matters.
Mr. Jacob has participated in the Yale Conference on Product Liability Law Reform and the ABA Conference at Lexington, Kentucky that considered the Griffin Bell Committee proposals for tort reform. He was a featured speaker at a University of Houston Conference on Environmental and Liability Law. He is a longtime member of the American Law Institute (having served on various consultative groups involved in the drafting of the Restatement of Torts). He has served on the Board of Advisors of the Institute for Health Policy Analysis of Georgetown University, and is the author of several articles, including "Of Causation in Science and Law: Consequences of the Erosion of Safeguards," in Business Lawyer, Vol. 40, No. 4, page 1229 (1985).
